ECI permits poll campaigns from 6 am to 10 pm

The Election Commission has allowed all political parties and candidates in the five poll bound States to hold election campaigns from 6 am to 10 pm following, Covid appropriate behaviour and protocol of SDMA.
The decision was taken after a periodic review of the Covid status in the country, said a statement of ECI.
Saying that the poll bound States are contributing a very small proportion of Covid cases, it added that the total number of cases in Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Manipur and Goa were more than 32 thousand at peak on January 22, but the figure has come down to around three thousand on February 12 .
As per the provisions relaxed by the Election Commission, political parties/candidates may hold their meetings and rallies upto maximum of 50 percent of the capacity of the designated open spaces or the limit prescribed by SDMA, whichever is lesser.
Pad Yatra consisting not more than permitted number of persons as per SDMA limitations and only with prior permission of district authorities is also allowed.
All other existing provisions related to electioneering shall continue to operate, it added.
