Imphal, January 12 2025:
One political party which is benefiting from the ongoing conflict in the State does not want it to end, and is adding more fuel to continue violence, alleged Works Minister Govindas Konthoujam.
He said this at the State Level Gaan Ngai celebration held at Chinikon village in Kangpokpi district.
Rituals, traditional dance and songs by villagers of Chinikon marked the festival.
Speaking on the occasion, Govindas Konthoujam stated that people have been suffering since the beginning of the ethnic conflict on May 3, 2023 .
"Despite people's suffering, one political party which fielded two MPs and won both seats, does not want the conflict to end.
If there wasn't violence in the State, they couldn't have won the elections.
They are now eyeing for the general elections and they don't want the violence to cease," Govindas alleged.
He urged the Opposition party to not politicize the current situation.
He continued that the war on drugs campaign, and the steps taken up by Chief Minister N Biren Singh to identify foreigners are for the welfare of the indigenous people.
Despite such efforts by the Chief Minister, the people's strong opposition to Chief Minister N Biren Singh is unfortunate, he added.
Govindas urged the people to cooperate and celebrate Gaan Ngai together in coming years.
He urged the people to unite and work together as indigenous communities against external forces trying to undermine the State's integrity.
The current violence in the State can't not be resolved only by the Government.
It is the responsibility of every citizen of the State, he said.
The event was also attended by Moirang Assembly Constituency MLA Thongam Shanti, Kumbi Assembly Constituency MLA Sanasam Premchand, Land and Resource Department Under Secretary Mangoljao Kamei and many eminent personalities.
