MLA Kunjo passes away

Sitting MLA Maibam Kunjo passed away at his Babupara quarters early this morning following a protracted health problem.
On learning about the sudden demise, Chief Minister O Ibobi, Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam, Council of Ministers and MLAs came to Babupara and paid their last respects to the departed MLA.
Later the mortal remains were taken to Kunjo's native village Hiyanglam Awang Leikai and cremated with full honour and customary rituals.
Maibam Kunjo is survived by five sons and two daughters.
He began his career as a social worker before he was elected to the Manipur Legislative Assembly for the first time on MPP ticket in 1974 from Hiyanglam Assembly Constituency.
He was re-elected in 1995 and 2000 on Janata Dal and MSCP tickets respectively.
He held differential ministerial berths at different points of time including Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, Veterinary and Animal Husbandry, DIPR, Commerce and Industries etc.
He was re-elected for the last time in 2012 on AITC ticket.
Meanwhile Chief Minister O Ibobi has condoled the demise of M Kunjo.
In his condolence message, Ibobi described Kunjo as a man of great political vision who worked for the upliftment of the poor and betterment of the society.
He also conveyed solidarity to the bereaved family.
Speaker Th Lokeshwar, in his condolence message, said that the sudden demise of Maibam Kunjo has created a irreparable political void not only for Hiyanglam A/C but also for the whole State.
He too shared the grief and pain being endured by the bereaved family, friends and relatives.
Manipur Pradesh Trinamool Congress Committee has condoled the untimely demise of Hiyanglam AC MLA Maibam Kunjo.
In a condolence meeting held today, party leaders, functionaries and workers observed a two-minute silence to mark respect to the departed soul, said a press release.
The meeting also shared grief with the bereaved family.
Remembering the works and contributions of Kunjo, the press release said that his demise has left behind a huge void not only in the party but also in the State.
Kunjo had represented Hiyanglam AC four times and held many important portfolios as Ministers during his long political career.
The Speaker of the Manipur Legislative Assembly Th Lokeshwar Singh has deeply condoled the sudden demise of Hiyanglam Constituency MLA Maibam Kunjo Singh.
In a press released Speaker Th Lokeshwar said, Maibam Kunjo is man with high personality and a true leader that he has represented Hiyanglam Constituency several times and even held the post of the minister in his heydays.
His sudden death is big blow not ony to the Hiyanglam Constituency but as a whole in the political scenario aswell as to our state.
Th Lokeshwar also extend heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and relatives of the MLA.
He also prayed to the Almighty God for thepeacefull existence of his soul.
