NIA remand for killer accused

The Court of Special Judge NIA Manipur on Tuesday remanded Lunminsei Kipgen who is a prime accused in the brutal killing of four persons including father and son duo near the water treatment plant at Ningthoukhong Kha Khunou on January 18 to judicial custody till June 25 .
Accused Lunminsei Kipgen @ Langinmang @ Mang @ Levis (35), s/o Songin of Mamong Village under Henglep Block Churachandpur district who is currently lodged at Central Jail Lokhra, Guwahati was produced before the Court through video conferencing along with a prayer by the NIA to send him to judicial custody.
The Special PP of NIA submitted that in compliance with the Ministry of Home Affairs order dated February 2, 2024 a case pertaining to the murder of four persons was re-registered by NIA Imphal under different Sections of IPC UA (P) Act and Arms Act arising out of the FIR registered at Bishnupur Police Station.
The Special PP NIA further submitted that a video clip of a brutal killing of a person suspected to be by Lunminsei has also been obtained and the same has been taken into record.
Notably, Lunminsei was formally arrested from the Central Jail, Lokhra in Guwahati on June 8 by the NIA.
He is the first accused to be arrested for the gruesome killing of four civilians at Ningthoukhong on January 18 .
An official note of NIA said that Lunminsei was actively involved in the fatal attack at Ningthoukhong which was part of the ongoing unrest and violence in Manipur.
The NIA further said that Lunminsei was a cadre of KNF (P) before joining United Kuki National Army during the current spate of violence.
The defence counsel didn't object to the prayer of the NIA.
The Court after hearing the submission of the Special PP NIA and in perusal of the case record remanded the accused to judicial custody at Central Jail, Lokhra in Guwahati till June 25 .
The Court also directed the jail authority to provide required treatment to the accused who sustained bullet injuries about two months back.
On 18 January 2024, heavily armed Kuki militants came to the water supply plant located in the middle of a paddy field at Ningthoukhong Kha Khunou and killed the four civilians including a father and son duo who were at the water treatment plant.
The deceased were Oinam Bamonjao, his son Oinam Manitomba, Thiyam Somendro and Ningthoujam Nabadeep and all of them were residents of Ninthoukhong Kha Khunou.
