Imphal, October 10 2016:
Demanding safe release of labourer Sorokhaibam Rameshore who was abducted by some suspected militants, Imphal-Ukhrul road was blocked today at Yourabung andSeijang.
The Nongdam Village Development Committee called a 48 hour Imphal-Ukhrul road bandh with effect from 6 am today and a large number of bandh supporters blocked the road at Yourabung and Seijang.
The bandh supporters were however dispersed by police at around 9.30 am.
Police have been keeping a strict vigil at the two areas so as to avoid any untoward incident.
Yet, bandh supporters blocked Napetpalli- Moirangpurel road at Nongdam Lamkhai and they also staged a protest demonstration there.
Sorokhaibam Rameshore (54) of Nongdam was abducted by some suspected armed militants who spoke Kuki dialect from Tuichin village on October 6 .
Rameshore's wife Sorokhaibam (O) Pramo said that her husband was an innocent daily wage earner.
She also condemned the abduction of Rameshore.
Saying that their family were living on the meagre wages earned by Rameshore, Pramo appealed for the safe release of her husband on humanitarian ground.
Khaidem Suresh (38) of Nongdam Maning Leikai who was working together with Rameshore said that five of them were staying together at Tuichin since October 2 .
Three armed persons came to their makeshift camp on October 6 and they took away Rameshore.
Suresh further identified two of the abductors as Pakai Kipgen and James Kipgen, both belonging to Talauli village.
Later, the abductors asked Rameshore's family through mobile phone to exert pressure on the contractor to pay Rs 50 lakh for his release.
In the meantime, KCP (Poirei Meitei) has claimed responsibility for the abduction of Rameshore.
While informing that Rameshore is safe and sound in their custody, the militant group asked the contractor not to be arrogant.
On the other hand, contractor Mongjam Poireihanba told media persons that Rameshore was also engaged in the construction work of Laikot Kom Chingmang-Tuichin road under PMGSY.
Although the road construction work started since 2015, it was delayed after abduction of some labourers by a Kuki militant group accommodated at Sinai Camp.
Now another labourer has been abducted.
What is strange is the claim of KCP (Poirei Meitei) while Rameshore was abducted by militants who spoke Kuki dialect, Poireihanba said.
He then appealed to all concerned to release Rameshore safely so that the road construction work can be completed speedily.
He also sought cooperation of the people settled along Laikot Kom Chingmang-Tuichin road in securing the safe release of Rameshore.
