Court remands man on abetment charge

The Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM), Imphal West has remanded a 30 year old man till September 24 on the charge of abetting suicide.
The brief history of the case, as per a complaint lodged by one Khundrakpam Khogen (48) of Sagolband Heinoubok with Singjamei police station is that his daughter Kh Anandi Devi (28) got married to one Laishram Bijoy Singh (30) son of L Ibohalbi of Kwakeithel Laishram Leikai in 2010 and they have two children.
Bijoy is a Village Defence Force personnel.
Anandi was found hanging at her husband's place on September 2 at around 6 pm and she breathed her last at ASIAN Hospital at Kwakeithel, said the complainant.
Claiming that his daughter and son-in-law quarrelled on many occasions including the day she died, the complainant said that his son-in-law might have abetted his daughter's suicide.
Singjamei police have arrested the accused Laishram Bijoy Singh and he was brought before the CJM Imphal West with a prayer to send him to judicial custody for 15 days.
The police said that Bijoy went to his home after attending Swasti Puja in an inebriated condition along with a quarter bottle of a Scotch (Black Dog).
He hid the liquor in front of his house near a sack of rice and slept in the middle room of his house.
When the accused woke up he could not find the liquor he hid so he called his wife and asked if she came across the liquor.
Anandi Devi (the deceased) told him that she drank the whisky and tried to slap her husband, added the police.
The couple argued over the matter and the in-laws of the deceased tried to stop them but Anandi suddenly ran to their bathroom and locked the door.
She was found hanging when her husband and in-laws broke the locked door using an iron rod, said police.
Anandi was taken to ASIAN Hospital but the doctors declared her brought dead.
Post mortem of the deceased was conducted on September 3 and the corpse is still lying at RIMS mortuary.
The police said that the accused caused a lot of stress to his wife and abused her emotionally when drunk.
The Court has remanded the accused to judicial custody till September 24 after examining what the police submitted and on perusal of the case record.
