Senapati, August 10 2024:
The United Naga Council (UNC) has renewed its demand to roll back the State Government's decision of creating seven new districts in the State.
A presidential council meeting of the UNC was held on Friday at its office and it decided to launch strong democratic agitation if their demands are not met at the earliest.
The presidential council meeting was attended by senior leaders of the UNC, All Naga Students Association, Manipur, Naga Women's Union, Naga People's Movement for Human Rights-South, intellectuals and social activists.
The meeting deliberated on the emerging socio-political condition in Manipur.
It decided to launch strong democratic forms of agitation against the State Government's refusal to roll back the newly created 7 districts even after a series of tripartite talks consisting of the Union Home Ministry, State Government and the United Naga Council.
The meeting also deliberated on the Govt's failure to deport illegal immigrants/refugees from Myanmar who have been sheltered in and around Kamjong and Tengnoupal Naga areas.
The UNC had earlier submitted a memorandum to the State Govt as well as the Union Home Ministry.
However, no positive response has come till date.
