Home Minister Gaikhangam has expressed serious concern over the reports of involvement of security personnel in anti-social and criminal activities.
He was speaking at the 42nd foundation day of the National Students' Union of India (NSUI) at Congress Bhavan here today.
He exhorted students to concentrate on their studies so that they can become educated and competent citizens of the Nation.
Stating that some security personnel were found in anti-social and unlawful activities as they did not receive proper schooling, the Home Minister lamented that security personnel who should otherwise dedicate themselves to protection of lives and properties of citizens have been engaging themselves in unlawful activities.
Talking about the aggravating traffic problems in Imphal city, Gaikhangam stated that necessary measures would be taken up in consultation with the public to address the traffic problem.
Taking serious note of the complaints and voices discord raised against the conduct of VDF personnel, Gaikhangam assured that it would be studied soon where and in which works VDF personnel would be deployed.

Security personnel should work in such a manner so as not to forsake people's trust.
Their (security personnel) presence should assure safety and protection of citizens, Gaikhangam exhorted.
All police personnel should always work under a strict code of discipline and efficiency.
It is imperative for the youngsters to undergo proper schooling and learn how to administer the State.
It was on account of lack of such knowledge that many people committed blunders and crimes when they became employees of the State.
This does not mean students should jumped into politics but they should study what politics is.
Gaikhangam further exhorted the student community to groom amiable character starting from the tender age.
Among others, the foundation function was also attended by Henglep AC MLA T Manga Vaiphei, MPCC (Administration) general secretary S Jiten Singh and NSUI Manipur president Th Bikram.
