Moirang, December 08 2024:
Kumbi AC MLA holding "incoming ceremony" to welcome persons who have newly joined BJP amid the Manipur conflict as peeved locals.
Several villages under Kumbi have come under attacks during the ongoing violent conflict and people have died.
People are suffering and this is not the time for the MLA to play politics and hold "incoming ceremonies", said Khangembam Iboyaima, speaking to the media as a representative of the locals at a press meet at Borayangbi today.
The press meet was attended by locals of Borayangbi and other surrounding villages.
The Government has so far failed to curb violence and end the conflict.
Peace has not been restored and people are still suffering the brunt of the violence.
Holding "incoming ceremonies" amid such a situation is disrespectful to the people and is the same as ignoring their plight, Iboyaima said.
Since May 3, 2023, Kumbi's Torbung, Bangla, Phougakchao Ikhai, Khoijumantabi, Chandonpokpi, Wathalambi and Haotak etc have come under frequent attacks and many innocent people have been killed.
Many are still displaced and they are taking shelter in relief camps.
Holding "incoming ceremonies" at this juncture is appalling and unbecoming of a representative of the people.
Iboyaima said.
The time is not right for the MLA to play politics.
It is time for him to hear and address the plight of his people and ease their suffering.
The MLA may play politics when election comes, he added.
He said the Government and its MLAs and Ministers should rather focus on curbing violence and resolving the conflict.
Further, the ban on mobile internet and data services has devastated many small businesses and people who depend on the service for their jobs and studies.
The internet ban must be lifted immediately for the benefit of the people including the students, he added.
Urging the Government to implement schemes to rehabilitate people affected by the conflict, he said, no agencies of the Government should arrest village volunteers of register cases against them.
