Governor La Ganesan has extended his heartiest greetings to the people of the State on the auspicious occasion of Anant Chaturdashi, which falls on September 9 .
In a statement, the Governor shared that Anant Chaturdashi is a special festival observed and celebrated among the Jain and Hindu communities across the world on the "14th day of the fortnight of Shukla Paksha of the Bhado month" .
He expressed hope for this year's Anant Chaturdashi to be celebrated with pomp and gaiety with vegetarian food.
Chief Minister N Biren Singh also joined in conveying his best wishes to the people, especially the Jain community on this occasion which is also observed as "Vegetarian Day" .
He stated that Lord Mahavira, the founder of Jainism, led an austere life of Ahimsa and had a firm belief that no harm should be caused to any living creature.
As such, his followers are one of the greatest advocates of vegetarianism and follow the dietary customs of self-control and purity of mind and spirit, he added.
In his statement, the Chief Minister asserted that vegetarian diet is one of the healthiest diets for man's physical, mental and spiritual development while once again reiterating his greetings to the people of the State on 'Vegetarian Day' .
Shri Digambar Jain Samaj, in a press release, has also informed that all Jain community shops will be closed on September 9 to celebrate Anant Chaturdasi Festival.
