Five-day training programme on integrated farming system kicks off

A five day training programme on "Integrated farming system with special reference to livestock production for empowerment of farm women" was kicked off today at the hall of Central Agricultural University (CAU), Lamphelpat, Imphal.
The 5-day training programme was organised by Directorate of Instruction, CAU under the sponsorship of National Commission for Women, Government of India, New Delhi.
Delivering a speech as the chief guest, Thumlip Tiningpham Monsang, chairperson i/c, Manipur State Commission for Women said that in order to empower women it is essential to ensure their financial stability.
She urged the participating women farmers to absorb the knowledge imparted during the course of this training programme and then use this knowledge to actualise their goals.
She also encouraged them to ask questions in case of doubts.

The chairperson i/c further shared that similar training programmes would be conducted across Imphal West, Imphal East, Thoubal, Bishnupur and Kakching.
Dr S Basanta Singh, Director of Director of Instruction, CAU ImphaI gave the presidential speech and stated that this was the first women-centric training programme that CAU has been involved in.
He highlighted the importance of integrated farming system saying that utilising this system could make the State self-reliant on its own products.
As such, the training programme had been conducted to convey the benefits of integrated farming system, he added.He encouraged the participating women farmers to become successful entrepreneurs in the future.
Lourembam Dayabati, Member, MSCW also spoke on the occasion and stated that financial freedom of women is necessary to bring about egalitarian society.
T Chuongsin Koireng, Member, MSCW highlighted the need for women to go beyond doing household chores and improve their economic standing.
She also expressed hope that CAU will conduct similar training programmes in the interest of women in the future as well.
Thirty women farmers from Kamjong district participated in the training programme.
