Imphal, April 08 2015 :
Much have been said on the lack of artistic quality in Manipuri digital films.
While many of the audiences had felt the recurrent, bleak and irrational plot in Manipuri films, not many had gone out to correct them either.
What the industry needs perhaps is a wave of 'newness' - new talents, new scripts and new ideas.
Cine Writers' Guild, Manipur (CWGM), in search of this 'newness' and with an aim to bring life into Manipuri films and to encourage budding talents into the film industry is set to organise, for the first time, a Manipuri film script competition in the State.
CWGM Chairman Manaobi MM, during a press meet held at the Guild's office at New Checkon, Singh Publicity building said the competition would be held on an international level where participants would be required to bring in new and original film script written in Manipuri.
The script must not be an adaptation of any form either from a novel, short story or a classical drama.
The artist would be required to come up with a new story and thereby new script to be eligible for the competition.
The first and the second halves of the script must contain a maximum of 35 to 40 scenes with a detailed description of the events.
The language, character's name and the title of the script should be in strict Manipuri, the chairman added.
Cash amount of Rs 30,000, Rs 20,000 and Rs 10,000 along with a citation would be conferred to the first, second and third position holders of the competition respectively.
The guild would not entertain any entry whose contents could pose a threat to communal harmony or cause any unrest, he added.
With the guild laying emphasis on the production of new story and its apparent stress on a 'realistic script', Manipuri film industry might perhaps undergo a whole new transformation.
The winning script would be made into a Manipuri feature film.
