Imphal, September 07 2014:
Meelal member, Sadokpam Tomba Mangang has conveyed that State Writer Chana Lukhoi, will undergo an incessant hunger strike if concerned authorities do not revoke the third amendment bill 2014, Govindagi Temple Board Act, Government of Manipur.
In a press conference, held at MEELAL office today, the organisation member, S Tomba, expressed that the Government's attempt to place 'Umang lai' under Govindagi temple Board, when the Umanglai Kanba Lup (UKAL) are giving off their best to save the fading tradition, is most unfortunate.
S Tomba further opined the State Government's decision faulty.
The State has, since generations, never required any permission as such to celebrate traditional events like 'Lai Haraoba' .
He added that it could develop ill feelings among communities.
There is Sanamahi Temple Board to look after the activities of Umang Lai or Kangla Uttra to censor events and any legislation which allows intrusion of Govindagi temple Board is quite unnecessary.
He further added that the organisation would extend all kinds of support to whatever step UKAL takes up in this regard.
Calling the Government's attention on the issue, he said MEELAL would stage various forms of agitation and would also support the initiative taken by the writer Chana Lukhoi, until their demands are met.
Further, Thakaba, secretary, MEELAL, also announced that the ban imposed on Nakentha Basanta, a book written by Dr Sorojini, Art and Cultural director, formerly banned for the use of foreign words, has been lifted.
The Book would thus be called Nakentha Yeningtha after alterations.
