Imphal, September 06 2024:
With the violence in the State lingering on for over 16 months and the subsequent deployment of bomb fitted drones and long range weapons to attack Meetei residential areas, the Kangleipak Kanba Lup (KKL) has asserted that the State is under siege by foreign Kuki elements.
KKL, in a statement signed by its secretary general Luwangcha U Ngamkheingakpa, said that the Central Government should take immediate and strong action against the 'Kuki terrorist groups' involved in drone assisted bombarding at Koutuk and Kadangband in Imphal West on September 1 .
One woman was killed in the terror attack at Koutruk and Kadangband right in front of the Central force while many others were injured, KKL said and added that the incident underscores the worsening security situation in the region and the increasing boldness of the hostile group.
KKL rued that the attack went unchallenged despite the presence of Central forces.
Questioning the effectiveness of the current security arrangement, it said that the State Government, already struggling to maintain law and order, appears powerless in the face of such brazen violence due to the transfer of power from the Chief Minister.
KKL also stated that the State administration merely echoing directives from the Central Government without taking strong, independent measures to ensure the safety of its citizens is disheartening.
Changing the Chief Minister will not solve the current crisis, KKL said and added that Central intervention is the need of the hour.
Further stating that an attack using sophisticated weapons like drones is not merely an attack as it also threatens the internal security and the integrity of the country, KKL asserted that the Central Government must stop being a mere spectator and take decisive action.
Such an attack is unlikely without foreign involvement, KKL said while urging the Government of India to take the matter seriously.
Asserting that protection of the people of Manipur cannot be compromised and robust measures are needed to restore peace and security in the region, KKL urged the Central authorities to prioritize the issue, apprehend those responsible for the attack, prevent further violence and restore confidence among the people of Manipur.
