Mass road side tree plantation held, DC, ADC call for mass awareness

Continuing the tree plantation drive taken up under the initiative of the district administration of Senapati under Deputy Commissioner, Jacintha Lazarus, ADC members, members of civil societies, DLOs and well wishers planted tree saplings along NH-2 stretch from Bongmol till Mao gate on August 4 .
In a brief flagging off ceremony held at ADC office complex, the DC Jacintha Lazarus and ADC Chairman ML Markson led from the front in the tree plantation drive followed by new ADC members from Kangpokpi and Senapati, SP Kabib, IPS, SDOs, DLOs, civil bodies, students and police/VDF personnel throughout the day.
Later in the afternoon, the DC along with officials and civil bodies visited plantation sites at Mao, Karong, Maram, Kuki Taphou, Hengbung, Mayangkhang, General Thangal Park, T Khullen, Kangpokpi and Bongmol along NH-2 .

During the flagging off programme, the DC said that the road side plantation will be held within a stretch of 65 kms where 13, 000 tree saplings are being planned for plantation.
It is a voluntary contribution from all the 1500 expected participants with a message to protect the environment and also give aesthetic looks to the State's lifeline-NH-2, she added.
The new plants will be fenced and taken care of by organisations of Kuki students, Poumai students, Mao students, Thangal students and Maram students in their respective jurisdiction.
The IAS officer also thanked the police/VDF forces for taking part in the tree plantation drive.
ADC chairman Markson appealed to the public to join such an innovative and mass exercise which is to save mother earth from further destruction due to human activities and ever growing population.
He added "it is our advantage when we act positively and responsibly which benefit the public" .
He also assured that ADC Senapati will support and endorse such noble initiative of the DC and her team.
CEO Rang Peter, MCS asserted, "we feel proud that we have also contributed for the benefits of the future generation," and called upon the participants to also adopt each plant for proper care till it grows big.
NPO president Moses Kamba lauded the DC for her inspiring involvement in planting trees and saving lives while Kuki Inpi-SH attributed natural calamities like landslide & drought to deforestation of jungles and trees.
This widely appreciated exercise which saw 1, 16, 000 tree saplings being planted at a catchment area in Senapati last year has spread to most part of the district.
This year, 18 villagers participated and re-filled more than 22, 000 tree saplings at the catchment areas.
The relentless endeavour of the lady IAS officer has been lauded by NPO, Kuki Inpi-Sadar Hills, student bodies like SDSA & KSO-SH, all tribe hohos and villagers.
