Imphal, February 06 2021:
Due to bad road connectivity, Tousem village in Tamenglong district has not seen the Government's Go To Hills Mission yet, claimed its chairman A Zeme.
The Tousem subdivision to Tamenglong district HQs are flooded throughout the rainy season and in winter, the road is filled with dust, he said when a team of visiting reporters talked to him about the plight of the people of the subdivision.
The journalists were visiting Tamenglong district on a campaign under the banner "Know Your Sanctuaries and Wetlands" .
To their surprise, the journalists also found some sections of the Tousem to Tamenglong DHQs flooded despite there being no rain.
Tousem village chairman A Zeme said Kaiphundai to Tousem section of the Imphal-Jiribam was first inaugurated by former Chief Minister Yangmaso Shaiza in 1979.Some sections of the road were blacktopped earlier but now there are not even the remains of the blacktopping.
The people of the region depend on the road for livelihood.
The Go To Village Mission has not yet reached the village due to bad road condition, he claimed.
R Lungchung, a Church leader of Azuram village along Tousem-Tamenglong road also echoed the same thought and added that the villagers are often forced to carry ailing persons on cots to hospital in Tamenglong district headquarters.
With the Government not improving the road, villagers often voluntarily repair the road, he said, adding that to bring equal development in the valley and the hills, the Government should pay attention and address the plight of the people of the far flung areas.
Notably, a villager of Thiulon village who was seriously wounded on the foot while working in the field was transported to Assam Rifles camp at Azuram for treatment in the vehicle of the journalists.
The journalists then took him for further treatment at the Tamenglong District Hospital.
