Imphal, February 06 2016 : The 11th Zeliangrong Folk Festival was today inaugurated by Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam at Sangaiprou Kabui village today.

Organised by the Zeliangrong Folk Festival Programme Committee, the inaugural function was highlighted by mes- merising cultural performances by the Sangaiprou dance troupe, Ireng dance troupe, Zeme dance troupe and Inpui dance troupe.

Speaking at the programme, Gaikhangam said that folk tales and folk songs signify the identity of the people or community.

Such festival should be observed in order to preserve the age-long tradition of a community.

He also urged the gathering to collectively build a foun- dation of love, peace and harmony in order to construct a better society.

The programme was also attended by MLA Janghemlung Panmei.
