Imphal, December 05 2024:
Shija Hospitals & Research Institute (SHRI) has congratulated Dr Boodu Ramya and Dr Maria Seejoe, 3rd year DNB general surgeiy students, for their exceptional achievements at NECASICON, the 6th Annual Conference of the North East Chapter of the Association of Surgeons of India (NECASI) .
The conference, held on November 29 and 30 in Kohima, Na galand, was organised by the Association of Surgeons of Nagaland (ASN) in collaboration with NECASI and the Association of Minimal Access Surgeons of India (AMASI) .
According to a statement of SHRI, both postgraduate trainees showcased remarkable talent in the poster presentation session, earning top honours.
Dr Ramya secured the first prize for her poster presentation on the "Minimal Access Removal of Intermuscular Foreign Body from the Right Gluteal Region".
Her study highlighted a ground-breaking case involving a patient with a deep bullet injury, typically managed through open surgeiy.
Under the expert guidance of Shija surgical team, a minimally invasive technique was used to remove the bullet, marking a pioneering effort in this field.
This innovative approach offers immense potential for managing similar cases and is a significant milestone in surgical practice.
Dr Seejoe received the second prize for her presentation on the "Laparoendoscopic Rendezvous Technique (LERV) for the Management of Cholecystocholedocholithiasis in a 51-Year-Old Male" .
This advanced procedure addressed the simultaneous presence of gallbladder and bile duct stones using a combination of laparoscopic and endoscopic techniques.
Despite requiring expertise from two specialists, the surgery was completed in just 1 hour and 40 minutes, matching the duration of traditional laparoscopic CBD exploration.
The technique demonstrated clear advantages, including reduced complications like bile leaks and pancreatitis, while enhancing surgical efficiency.
Both surgeries were performed under the expert mentorship of Shija Hospitals' director of medical services Dr Jugindra Sorokhaibam, and consultant general & minimal access surgeon Dr Devendra Khwairakpam.
Their guidance was instrumental in achieving these clinical breakthroughs.
Speaking about the achievements, Dr Jugindra expressed immense pride, stating, "These accolades reflect Shija Hospitals' commitment to promoting surgical excellence and advancing healthcare practices.
We are incredibly proud of Dr Ramya and Dr Seejoe for their remarkable contributions" .
