Mishaps claim seven lives

Altogether seven people have been killed in three different fatal accidents which took place in different parts of the State during the last 48 hours.
Five labourers engaged in Jiribam-Tupul railway construction work were killed when a tipper truck in which they were travelling fell into a gorge at Lungkao (Nungkao) Part-II, Tamenglong district at around 7 am of October 2 .
Another labourer engaged in construction of tunnel no 7 of the same railway project at Marangching Part V under Noney police station got electrocuted at 2.30 pm yesterday.
After falling into the gorge, the tipper truck was partially buried.
Dead body of one Vopen Saurya (23) s/o Honesor from Piling Eata village located along Assam-Meghalaya border was recovered on the day of the fatal accident.
The dead bodies of Altaf Hussain (24) s/o Harish Ali of Islampur, Assam; Sarabjeet Nath (29) s/o Gouramohon of Karimganj, Assam and Surman Khan (20) s/o Bilath of Barpeta, Assam were recovered the next day.
Another dead body was found today and it has been brought to JNIMS morgue.
But the identity of the deceased could not be established so far.
The first four bodies have been handed over to relevant authorities after post mortem at JNIMS today.
The corpse of the man who got electrocuted at Marangching has also been handed over to relevant authority after completion of post mortem at JNIMS today.
He was one Dijen Deka (23) s/o Osuth from Barpeta, Assam.
Meanwhile, a man who was riding a Honda Activa scooter was killed when he was knocked down by a truck at Chingarel along Imphal-Ukhrul road at around 9.30 am today.
The deceased victim has been identified as one Athokpam Dinesh (22) s/o Chaoren of Wairi Mayai Leikai.
The corpse has been handed over to family members after post mortem at JNIMS.
