Symposium held at Ukhrul

The Sentinel College, Ukhrul organised a one-day symposium on "Today's Demand in Education" at Town hall here today.
The panellists of the symposium included MLA Samuel Risom MLA, ex-minister Dr Khashim Ruivah, Dr RK Ranjan of Manipur University's Geography department and Dr MC Arun of Anthropology department, MU.
Dwelling on the functional perspective of education, Samuel Risom stressed on the need to inculcate enlightenment and enrichment of character in the education while observing the increasing immoral activities in the society.
Dr Ranjan emphasised on evolution perspective.
He dwelt at length on the progress and transition of human from being a hunter to gatherer of knowledge till the evolution of a knowledge based society.
He also talked about the RTE vis-a-vis Govt policy to meet the education need and globalisation.

Dr Arun stressed on innovative system of education, where the teachers should be capacitated to explore the talents of their students.
Vice principal of the college, James Hosanah said that the college was established in 1996 by four like-minded persons.
It has now more than 20 faculty members with 400 students.
The college has IGNOU study centre and NSS unit.
