Imphal, August 04 2024:
The All Manipur United Clubs' Organisation (AMUCO) has appealed to all the people not to support or follow those individuals who have been pursuing divisive politics and scheming to disintegrate Manipur.
Speaking on the 27th Manipur Integrity Day held today at Kwakeithel Akham Leikai community hall, AMUCO president Ph Nando Luwang asserted that the hope of creating a separate State/administration out of Manipur is nothing more than a pipe dream.
Those people who have been advocating a politics of division are doing so in their own personal interests to grab political power and amass wealth, Nando said.
There are ample evidences of the Government of India instigating one community to divide Manipur and when their attempt ended in failure, they chose another community to push forward their nefarious agenda, he said.
The Government of India has its hands in the 15 months old Manipur crisis.
While the Government of India has been instigating one community to disintegrate Manipur, troops of Assam Rifles have not been acting in a neutral manner but taking the side of a particular community, he said.
When any investigation agency undertakes any investigation of the Manipur crisis, they should not start targeting the civilians who took up arms to defend their villages and community.
If the crisis must be investigated, it should start with the high profile political leaders of India.
It would be a gross injustice if any investigation agency victimises the village defence volunteers, Nando continued.
A huge rally participated by more than five lakh people was held in Imphal on August 4, 1997 and it sent a very clear message that the Government of India should stop its policy of creating divisions among the communities of Manipur.
The rally also demonstrated before the whole world that the people of Manipur have been standing for the State's integrity.
AMUCO has been commemorating the historic rally since 1998, he said.
"However, the Government of India, even after knowing our resolve and position on the integrity of Manipur, has been scheming continuously to disintegrate Manipur but all their attempts will end in failure", the AMUCO president asserted.
In the past, the Awas (now Myanmar) made repeated attempts to fragment Manipur and they even occupied Manipur unleashing a reign of terror for seven years (Seven Years Devastation) but Manipur fought back and drove away the Awa soldiers, he said.
He then appealed to all the communities of Manipur to adopt a common resolve for peaceful co-existence, collective struggle and collective development.
Poirei Leimarol Meira Paibi Apunba Manipur president Soraisam Memcha too appealed to all the people of Manipur to take a common path.
"Manipur cannot break apart under any circumstances and we will face every force which challenge the integrity of Manipur", she said.
All Manipur Women's Voluntary Association president Y Kunjarani alleged that the Government of India has been scheming continuously to destroy the integrity of Manipur .
The Government of India has been following a divide and rule policy in Manipur and everyone knows who is behind the current 15 months old crisis, she said.
Taking strong exception to the brutal police crackdown on a rally taken out by displaced people at Akampat on August 1, Kunjarani asked the Government to send those 'brave' police personnel to Churachandpur and Kangpokpi and let them show their bravery there.AMUCO advisor Ito Tongbram and All Manipur Meitei Pangal Clubs' Organisation president Yumkhaibam Hayatur Rahman were also seated on the dais as presidium members.
Earlier in the morning, a large number of people led by the AMUCO president paid floral tributes at the Integrity Pillar located near Pologround.
