Orientation for NE students held in Delhi

New Delhi, July 04 2016:
Each year, several students from India's northeast region descend on New Delhi to seek admission to various colleges affiliated to Delhi University (DU).
In order to help these students get admission, one of the student unions, the Tangkhul Katamnao Long Delhi (TKLD) in collaboration with the Ikra Foundation organized recently, a one of a kind on 'Confluence on Opportunities cum Orientation' at the DU conference centre.
"The confluence was an attempt to generate right information and motivation to enable life transformation decision, creating an inclusive platform for interaction and exchange of ideas and hone intellectual knowledge with the help of experts and accomplished personal from and within the community", said Shimri Raising, President, TLKD.
Dr.Santa Cruz, Deputy Dean, Students Welfare, Delhi University, said "Right guidance in the upfront is very necessary.
And, one nodal officer each has been assigned in every college concerning students from the NE".
Oscar Fernandez, former union minster and a well wisher of north-eastern people, was among the people present at the event.
"There are ample opportunities here in the capital city.
We have to assess what all are the opportunities available and tell the students in what way they have to choose their subjects.
And if they choose the right subject, at the right time, it will lead to the right opportunity.
They (companies) will be ready to take them, otherwise, they (students) will have to train again to get to the opportunity", said Fernandez.
Experts from different fields attended the conference.
"In this city, students need to know many things and this is the opportunity for them to interact with seniors and elders to go forward and achieve what they want in life", Dr.A S Yaruingam, Professor, Department of African Studies, Delhi University, said.
Many students said that the confluence gave them a wider perspective about the opportunities that is available and to expand their scope on the ideas of what they want to become in life.
The event also gave the equal importance given to every line of profession breaking age old traditions and conventional way of orientation.
