Acclaimed documentary Phum-Shang (floating life) was screened today at the Preview Theater of Manipur State Film Development Society, Palace Compound Imphal.
The documentary produced by noted film maker Haobam Paban Kumar in 2014 has won various awards including the Best Medium Length Film at the 18th International Environmental Film and Video Festival, 2016 held at Brazil.
The film has also won the Golden Conch of the Best Documentary in the 14th Mumbai International Film Festival, 2016, Royal Bengal Tiger for the Best Documentary in the 21st Kolkata International Film Festival, 2015, Indian Panorama in the 36th International Film Festival of India, 2015 held at Goa, Cinema of Resistance Award in the 9th SIGNS Film Festival, 2015 held at Kerala, First Bala Kailasam Memorial Award, Chennai 2015, Best Long Documentary in the 8th International Documentary and Short Film Festival, 2015 held at Kerala and the Rajat Kamal (Silver Lotus) for the Best Investigative Film in the 62nd National Film Award of 2014 .
The 52 minute long documentary depicted the State Government's brutal act of burning down hundreds of huts in Loktak Lake on the pretext of cleaning the lake and blaming the locals for polluting the lake.
