Moirang, August 03 2024:
Moirang Keithel has been shut for two days starting today denouncing monetary demands.
Today, shopkeepers and vendors shut their shops and took part in the protest demonstration.
The current conflict, since May 3, 2023, has affected all alike, and shops and vendors are earning less.
Imposing monetary demands on shops and vendors have added to the woes, they said.
The shopkeepers and the vendors said they have been donating money and providing all possible assistance to victims of the conflict including the displaced people in relief camps and volunteers guarding the villages in the peripheries.
They said they have been providing assistance without anyone asking them.
The protesters said all groups and individuals concerned should refrain from making monetary demands and asking for monetary assistance from traders in the Moirang area.
A woman vendor said almost all shops in Moirang are earning less amid the conflict.
When all the people of the region, including the shops and traders have been affected, large monetary demands made to traders have threatened their business and livelihoods, she said.
If the monetary demands continue, the shops and all the traders along with the people of Moirang region will be forced to launch stringent agitation, she said pleading with the groups concerned to understand their positions and circumstances.
The protesters said Moirang Keithel will remain shut tomorrow also.
They held placards denouncing "monetary demands", and also urged the Government to end the Manipur crisis at the earliest.
