Five more file nomination papers

Assembly Speaker Yumnam Khemchand Singh of the Bharatiya Janata Party on Thursday filed his nomination papers from the 13-Singjamei Assembly Constituency for the two-phase election.
Khemchand filed three nomination papers supported by three proposers each, at the office of the Returning Officer (RO) 13-Singjamei AC Pangambam Yaitongba.
The third day of filing of nominations in respect of the first phase of polling also witnessed four other candidates, including ex-Minister Karam Shyam, filing their nomination papers in Imphal West district.
Ex-Minister and BJP candidate Karam Shyam filed his nomination from 20-Langthabal Assembly Constituency.
Karam Shyam had served as a Cabinet Minister for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution in the earlier part of the present BJP-led Government.
The nomination was filed at the office of RO, 20-Langthabal AC, Scindia Laipubam, with the support of one proposer.
National People Party (NPP) candidate Konthoujam Sharat Singh also filed his nominations from the 18-Konthoujam Assembly Constituency at the office of the RO, 18-Konthoujam AC Samson Huidrom.
Sharat filed three nomination papers supported by three proposers each.
He won the Konthoujam Assembly seat in 2012 from an AITC ticket.
NPP candidate Khuraijam Loken Singh filed his nomination from 22-Wangoi Assembly Constituency at the office of the RO, 22-Wangoi AC H Sukumar Singh.
His nomination papers were supported by three proposers each.
Another NPP candidate Ayangbam Oken Singh also filed from 16-Sekmai (SC) AC today supported by one proposer at the office of the Returning Officer 16-Sekmai (SC) AC Padmati Salam.
It may be mentioned that JD (U) candidate Khwairakpam Devendro Singh, son of (L) Khwairakpam Jatra Singh of Awang Sekmai Makha Leikai had filed his nomination from 16-Sekmai (SC) Assembly Constituency, yesterday.
Altogether 6 candidates have filed their nomination till today, the third day of nomination, which include 3 candidates of the National People Party, two of the Bharatiya Janata Party and one candidate from the Janata Dal (United) .
Nomination papers will be received till February 8 and scrutiny of nomination papers will be taken up on February 9, while the last date for withdrawal of candidature
is February 11 .
