Thoubal, December 02 2024:
Womenfolk of Thoubal staged torch rallies across the district expressing their opposition to any form of arrest or detention of Meetei village volunteers who came forward to protect their villages from Kuki aggression in the backdrop of the conflict.
Taking out a torch rally, meira paibis of Thoubal Kiyam Wangmataba held placards with messages such as "Withdraw cases levelled against members of Arambai Tenggol", "We oppose arrest of village volunteers" and "Territorial integrity of Manipur cannot be compromised" and raised similar slogans.
A protester stated that the NIA levelling charges against Arambai Tenggol leader Korounganba Khuman is unacceptable and called for its withdrawal.
At Lilong Nungei, womenfolk bearing traditional torches in their hands echoed similar sentiments and raised slogans.
Meira paibis of Thoubal Athokpam carried out a protest torch rally at Athokpam Keithel demanding withdrawal of cases filed against Arambai Tenggol members and arrest of village volunteers.
Similar protests were witnessed at Thoubal Melaground and Thoubal Wangmataba yesterday night.
A protester at the latter venue stated that Meetei village volunteers and Arambai Tenggol members have protected the vulnerable villages from Kuki attacks and widespread attempts to disintegrate Manipur.
The Indian Government's bid to round up the individuals who are protecting the people instead of those who are waging war against civilians is completely unacceptable, she asserted.
A large number of womenfolk also gathered at Wangjing Keithel last night demanding withdrawal of the NIA case against Korounganba and opposing the arrest of village volunteers.
