Imphal, December 02 2012:
Absence of further procedural initiatives by Manipur university authorities on the advertisement placed for appointment of teaching as well as non teaching staff of the Central university is reportedly having adverse impact on normal academic activities.
According to an official source, on December 22, 2011 Manipur University advertisement (No.2/2011) was issued for selection of 53 Professors and Associate Professors for 31 departments along with one post of medical officer.
Even though number of requirements for the teaching staff vary from one to five posts, students as well as scholars pursuing studies in departments with maximum number of vacant posts are ruing their fate, the source expressed while disclosing that there is no sign of any official procedures to carry forth the selection exercise.
Regretting that such an important institution like Manipur university, with about 77 affiliated institutions including RIMS, JNIMS and Manipur Institute of Technology, is facing shortage of teachers, the source opined that neglecting the matter for nearly a year amounts to undermining academic interest of all concerned.
It is also said that there are many post of non-teaching staff laying vacant with either the officer present holding/executing additional charges or the varsity's Vice Chancellor vested with additional duty.
The vacant post for which the advertisement was issued include post of Controller of Examination, finance officer, college development council's director, professors and associate professors.
The expectation that upgradation of MU to a Central University would resolve problems of teaching faculty shortages and infrastructure inadequacies associated when it was under the State Government is unlikely to materialise if MU authorities are not committed to highlight and address the problems, opined the source.
