Labourers stage cease work strike

Imphal, November 02 2013 : Demanding release of February to October wages to the contractors, 61 labourers of Consumer Affairs Food and Public Distribution (CAF & PD) have staged cease work strike today.

W Romendrajit, General Secretary of CAF & PD Labourers Welfare Association, who attended the cease work strike, informed news persons that the cease work strike was held as the contractors denied payment of the nine month wages of the labourers.

If the contractors do not pay heed to the strike, supply and loading of rice will be stopped, he warned adding that the higher authority should hold responsible for any consequence if new labours are brought without clearing the pending wages.

Pay ment of Rs 10,000 per labourer is due, he said.

The Gen Secy also put up several demands to the concerned authority including providing the same facilities to the CAF & PD, Sangaiprou labourers as entitled to laboureres of FCI, Sangaiprou.
