Training on role of cops in polls held

A one day training cum lecture programme on the role of police personnel for conducting free and fair election in Imphal East district was held at the conference hall of Imphal East District Police Headquarters today morning.
Zonal police officers and commanders of Mobile Police of Imphal East who have been appointed to ensure the forthcoming State Assembly election free and fair attended the programme.
Additional SP (Law and order) Imphal East, P Manjit spoke on security plan and classification of polling station, preventive measures taken up by the district police and CPMF accommodation and deployment.
Additional SP (Operation) Imphal East, K Meghachandra delivered a lecture on the role which has to be taken up by police officers before the polls and on the polling day.
He asked the police officers to get familiar with the places where they have been appointed as Zonal Officers or Commanders of Mobile unit and do topography of the areas, social composition and the communities residing in the places.
He also asked the police officers to look after the major law and order situation of the area such as whether there is communal conflict, tension amongst each others, frequent bandh, dharna and other cases to prevent any kind of unwanted incident on the polling day.
Speaking to newspersons, K Meghachandra said that the training cum lecture programme was held to let police personnel know more about the duties entrusted to them.
He elaborated that Zonal Officers of the district police will look after the deployment of 30 Mobile units under him as there are around 430 polling stations in Imphal East district.
He further asked the police officers to keep a tight vigil of the vulnerable points, intimidators and trouble makers in the areas.
He informed that similar kind of programme will be organised for flying squads who are presently working under DC Imphal East.
During the training cum lecture programme, the Zonal Officers and Commanders of Mobile units were apprised about the dos and don'ts under election model code of conduct.
