Imphal, November 30 2012:
The Coordination Committee of College Students' union Manipur submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister in which problems faced by the students owing to infrastructure inadequacies have been highlighted.
The memorandum was handed over to the CM after a rally, organised in association with DESAM, was taken out from DM College campus today.
A copy of the memorandum was also submitted to the Education Minister M Okendro by a student delegation.
Speaking to newspersons, DESAM general secretary Arambam Thoithoi expressed strong resentment that repeated appeals by the college students to ensure availability of basic facilities for 28 Government colleges continue to remain unanswered till date.
As democratic forms of agitation, including relay hunger strike failed to evoke positive response on the rightly demands, the students were compelled to stage today's protest rally, said the student activist who cautioned that failure to address the issues might lead to intense form of agitation likely to embarrass the Government of Manipur.
Among others the memorandum highlighted insufficient desks and benches, erratic power supply, non-availability of lecture/seminar rooms, poor laboratory equipment, absence of toilets, non-provision of internet connectivity, vacant post of Director of Higher Education and non appointment of regular principals.
