Training programme conducted

Three-day training programme for ENT doctors, audiologist, audiological Assistants and teachers of hearing impaired organised under the National Programme for Prevention and Control of Deafness, Manipur was today inaugurated at Sangai Hall of Hotel Imphal by the State Mission Director, National Health Mission, Manipur Dr O Ibomcha Singh.
Expert doctors, speech therapists and audiologists will deliver speeches on various topics like prevalence, causes and prevention of deafness and hearing impairment, detection, screening and testing of hearing impairment, aural rehabilitation and education etc.
Speaking at the inaugural session of the three day long training programme, Dr O Ibomcha stated that Manipur has achieved recognition from the Government of India in various fields of medical sciences and will continue to do so in future.
He added that the State will be adding another feather in the cap as Manipur has become the forerunner in a survey conducted by the India Today Group for Infant Mortality Rate (IMR) and Maternity Mortality Rate (MMR) in gender ratio and increase of beds in hospitals.
45,000 infants are born every year and 150 children suffer from hearing impairment.
To tackle the menace of deafness, the National Programme for Prevention and Control of Deafness, Manipur under the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) will work efficiently to track down the last child who suffer from hearing impairment and provide them the necessary treatment, he added.
