DD to launch 24x7 channels for NE

Doordarshan is exploring possibility of launching a separate 24x7 satellite channel or channels for the North-East states to provide a strong plat-form to showcase the rich and diverse cultural and linguistic identities of the region.
At present the Programme Production Centre, Guwahati produces and coordinates the programme for the DD-North-East Channel which telecasts programmes for different segments of society in the region.
Further, DD Sports has mounted special initiatives for coverage, production and transmission of all sporting events in North East region which has a rich history and legacy of tribal and indigenous sports apart from po- pular sports.
DD sports is planning to draw out an annual calendar of events in which it will jointly organise and telecast events in identified states ranging from 2-3 days every month.
The Centre has announced to build a dedicated Film and Television Institute in Aru-nachal Pradesh in the lines of Pune film institute.
"It will be a Northeast centric film centre, identify and train young talent and promote the region as a film shooting destination," a senior information and broadcasting ministry official said.
Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, who is also the minister for Information and Broadcasting, had announced the film centre in his budget speech.
Sources said land has been identified for the proposed film centre in Arunachal Pradesh.
