We should commit to quit usage of tobacco products: MSF

We all should take stand to stay away from tobacco related products on the occasion of 'No Tobacco Day' celebrated world wide on May 31 .
Manipuri Students' Federation (MSF) said this in a statement issued today and added that May 31 is annually celebrated as 'No Tobacco Day' under a theme issued by World Health Organisation and WHO had decided 'Commit to Quit' as the theme for this year observation.
Whenever pandemic like situation arises in Manipur, businessmen import huge lot of tobacco related products into the state and this has been continuing for years.
Also there are some people in the state who will give up food for a cigarette or other tobacco products, added the statement.
MSF added in the statement that India ranked 3rd in Tobacco production and it is a well known fact that both COVID-19 and smoking tobacco affects the lungs and causes difficulty in breathing and other health problems.
We should all commit to quit usage of tobacco products in order to built a healthy society for the future.
Manipur University, Canchipur observed the 'World No Tobacco Day' today at the premises of Vice-Chancellor's office at 2:00 pm by taking the World No Tobacco Day Pledge both in Hindi and English languages.
The pledge was taken by Prof S Sanatombi Singha, the Vice-Chancellor (i/c), Manipur University.
The Observance was attended by Prof W Chandbabu Singh, Registrar, Manipur University and all the stakeholder of Manipur University communities - Dr L Bishwanath Sharma, Dean, Students' Welfare, MU & Chairman, Fit India Club, MU, Prof N Mohilal Meitei, Chairman, COVID-19 Monitoring Task Force, MU, Dr S Santikumar Singh, General Secretary, MUTA, S Brojen Singh, President, MUSA, K Nareshkumar Singh, General Secretary, MUSU, and others members of FICC and FIC, MU, said a press release by Fit India Campaign Committee and Fit India Club, Manipur University.
The Observance of 'World No Tobacco Day' was organized by Fit India Campaign Committee and Fit India Club, Manipur University, in pursuance of Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Department of Health and Family Welfare, Govt of India, New Delhi.
