Imphal, May 31 2011:
Going outside for further education just after 10th or 12th standard has become a fashion in Manipur, there-by giving a serious impact on the economy of the State with crores of rupees draining out every year, All Manipur Students Guardians' Organisation has expressed concern.
Addressing a press conference in this connection at its Palace Compound office today, advisor of the Organisation N Tomba pointed out that most of the students in Manipur have been opting to go outside the State to study after 10th or 12 standard although they could get the same sort of educational facilities here as well.
Parents also encourage their children in this regard.
As a result, crores of rupees are being drained out of the State every year.
Appealing to the students and their parents for continuation of education in Manipur, Tomba further pointed out that today many of the courses including technical studies being offered outside can be studied in Manipur itself.
Moreover, there has been lot of improvement in the field of education in Manipur over the last few decades.
So, instead of sending their children outside for studies spending huge expenditure, parents can ensure the future of their children here in Manipur itself, he observed.
Expressing concern over declining trend of students opting general line, Tomba contended that many of the students who could have become the administrators, IAS officers, teachers, etc are losing to craze for technical line.
In order to encourage students to take up general line, the Government of India has been providing incentives to students of BA, B Sc, etc, he pointed out.
Tomba suggested that the results of class X should be declared in May instead of June.
Because when the results are declared in June, students in XIth standard get only 8 months to study and can not complete the syllabus in time for the common examination conducted by the Council.
So, either the academic session should be started earlier or the common examination should be conducted little later.
Working president of the Organisation N Chaoba, who was also present, appealed to all concerned to ensure education a free zone in Manipur.
