MLA appeals for sanity

While committing himself for ushering overall development in Chandel district Tengnoupal assembly constituency MLA D Korungthang sought cooperation of the district populace to foil subversive acts of anti-social elements.
Describing Chandel district as one of the most backward districts in the State, the MLA affirmed that he would take all possible measures to ensure development of roads and bridges on priority basis.
Speaking at a reception programme jointly hosted by District Congress Committee and Chandel ADC Members at Hotel Imphal today, Korungthang noted that the Imphal-Moreh section of NH-39 and the road stretch from Pallel to the district headquarters need immediate attention/development.
In addition to poor surface connectivity, people settled in Moreh town had been enduring shortage of hygienic drinking water and erratic power supply thereby comounding problem in this hot and humid border town, conceded the MLA.
Urging the ADC members to extend cooperation in his endeavour to bring development in the district, Korungthang also emphasised that every community settled in the district need to contribute their mite in promoting peace and tranquillity to facilitate expeditious development.
Conveying that the general public ceaselessly backing him in the recently held State assembly election despite threat and intimidation has lifted his spirit to work vigorously for the people, he also conveyed gratitude to the people for their overwhelming support to the Congress party and its candidates at the election.
Chandel ADC chairman Lhukhosei Zou, who also spoke on the occasion expressed that success of the Congress candidate (Korungthang) in chandel district at the State election would ultimately have positive impact on the functioning of the district's ADC.
Maintaining that Chandel had no representative in the Council of Ministers in the previous Government, he demanded a ministerial portfolio to atleast an elected member from the district in order to ensure effective development works in the district.
Chandel DCC president NS Mephul and ADC vice chairman Langhu Lhanghring also addressed the gathering.
