Kuki people must be consulted: KSO to GoI

Imphal, February 28 2017:
The Kuki Students' Organisation (KSO) Ghqs has asserted that the Kuki people must be consulted before a final settlement is worked out to the political dialogue going on between NSCN-IM and the Government of India.
The Government of India needs to consult the Kuki people in all its seriousness; otherwise what is a peace accord to the Government would only be an indication of the start of another tumultuous period in the region, warned a statement issued by KSO Ghqs general secretary Seiboi Haokip.
The Indian Express report on the ongoing Indo-Naga talks is a shocker for most people of Manipur.
The report which said RN Ravi, Indian Government's official interlocutor on NSCN-IM issue, and NSCN-IM leader Muivah have been secretly hammering out details of a political autonomy deal for Naga communities living inside and outside of the State, is conflicting with the statements of the Prime Minister and many Union Ministers.
"The way the Central Government leadership has taken us for a ride is outrageous, as they have claimed that the Framework Agreement does not infringe on the state of Manipur", it decried.
KSO Ghqs is appalled by the contradictory stances of the Central Government leadership and the Prime Minister's Office which directly deals the NSCN-IM issue.
The Government of India tends to forget that the Kukis, in recorded history, were rulers of the erstwhile Independent Hill Country.
The land stretching from the hill ranges south of Naga Hills in the north, and upper Chindwin and Chin Hills in the east, Chittagong Hill Tracts in the south, and the plains of Sylhet in the west was historically known as Kuki Country, it claimed.
In any issue concerning hill land in Manipur, the Government of India needs to understand that the Kukis should be duly consulted.
A consultation between the Government of India and the Kukis at the highest level is mandatory, it added.
