Imphal, January 31 2022: Lilong police arrested three persons in connection for slaughtering a cow in public and allegedly committing cruelty to animals and promoting enmity among different religious groups after registering a suo moto case.

Sources informed that Lilong police today morning registered a suo moto case and arrested three persons identified as Nazbul Hussain alias Mayai s/o (L) Akbar of Lilong Tolen Khun, Abdur Rashid s/o Md Abdur Rahim of Lilong Chaobok Ipham and Md Arif Khan s/o Md Yakup Ali of Lilong Heinou Makhong after seeing a video clip which went viral on social media platforms like Facebook and Whatsapp which shows slaughtering of a cow in public place.

Police later registered an FIR under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animal Act 1960 and produced them before the Court of Judicial Magistrate, First Class Thoubal today evening along with a prayer for remanding them to judicial custody for further investigation of the case.

The Court after hearing the IO of the case and on perusal of the case record ordered release of the trio on bail on furnishing PR bond and surety of one Government employee each.
