One injured in firing, three held

Imphal, December 31 2019: Three individuals, a father and his two sons, have been arrested by police in connection with a firing incident which occured at around 10.30 pm of December 29 at Kwakeithel Thounaojam Leikai, under Lamphel PS.

According to a reliable source, one individual identified as Laishram Luhelkanta (49) s/o (L) L Lukhoi alias Lokeshore of the locality sustained pellet injuries on his neck, back, arms and waists during the incident and as such, he was initially rushed to RIMS for treatment, before he was referred to Shija Hospitals.

The source continued that Thongam Ichaoba (52) s/o Jatra of the same locality, as well as his two sons, Deepak (30) and Dipu (21), have been arrested by police in connection with the incident.

On the other hand, locals of Kwakeithel Thounaojam Leikai staged a sit-in protest yesterday condemning the act.

The protesters demanded seizure of Ichaoba's gun as well as cancellation of its licence.

They also deman-ded punishment of the culprits as per law.

The locals further decided that they will never take part in any of the matters concerning Thongam Ichaoba's family in the future.
