Imphal, November 09:
All the 37 students of the Female Health Workers' Training School located at Churachandpur district have fled the school and demanded their transfer to a centre in Imphal after BSF personnel allegedly raided their quarters and fired some blank rounds on November 7 evening.
The panic stricken students have decided not to return to the school until the Government gives specific assurance regarding their safety and security by tomorrow.
Sources said that an emergency meeting attended by Health officials including Commissioner Henry K Heni and Director Dr Ch Chandramani was held this morning to discuss the matter.
However what transpired in the meeting could not be known.
The Churachandpur DC has been asked to conduct an inquiry into the BSF raid.
The Health Director will visit the school tomorrow.
A seven day closure of the school from November 12 has been announced.
The students gathered at the complex of the Health Directorate this morning to air their grievances.
They said BSF personnel came inside the quarters housing only female students and conducted an operation from 6.30 pm to 7.30 pm.
The team was accompanied by two lady officers.
The personnel charged that two students in the hostel possess wireless sets and have links with an underground outfit.
They allegedly threatened that the duo would be apprehended if the students fail to produce the wireless sets.
They further said that the personnel found nothing when they searched the rooms.
Later they took the signature of the principal in a letter prepared by the BSF personnel; they said adding that they do not know the contents of the letter.
The students alleged that the personnel fired some 10-11 rounds in the air a short while after their departure.
The shooting compounded the fear of the female students and some of them fainted on hearing the sound of the gunfire.
The students who had crossed 4 months of their one and a half year nursing course lamented that they could not stay and study there under such a tense and insecure situation.
