Three MLAs resign from drafting committee : Peeved with no action taken against cops in Robinhood's death
and suspension for firing at Singjamei

Imphal, July 30 2015: Three MLAs who are members of the five-member committee constituted at the initiative of the State Government to draft a new Bill in the line of Inner Line Permit System have tendered resignation letters to the committee's chairman today.

The three MLAs who have sought resignation from the committee's membership are N Biren (Heingang A/C), Dr Ng Bijoy (Khurai A/C) and RK Anand (Naoriya Pakhanglakpa A/C) .

Sources informed that the three ruling MLAs sought resignation from the committee as they have serious grievances against the Government.

In connection with injuring a protester in police firing at Singjamei Mayengbam Leikai in the course of the 38 hour bandh called by the JAC Against the Brutal Killing of Sapam Robinhood, one police personnel was suspended.

The three MLAs saw this step of the State Government as discriminatory as no police personnel has been suspended in connection with the killing of Sapam Robinhood.

They cited this non-uniform treatment of the two incidents in their resignation letters submitted to the drafting committee chairman Th Debendra who is also the Law and Legislative Affairs Minister.

On learning about the resignation letters, Chief Minister called all the three MLAs to talk about their grievances this evening but N Biren failed to turn up.

Notably, the JAC Against the Brutal Killing of Sapam Robinhood boycotted MLA N Biren after the State Government failed to take up any follow-up action on the MLA's assurance to a group of Meira Paibis that necessary procedures would be initiated to suspend the police personnel involved in the killing of Robinhood.

Protests continue unabated : People continued to stage sit-in-protests demanding implementation of ILPS in the State today as well.

Poirei Leimarol Meira Paibee Apunba Manipur and 25 different meira paibi bodies of Khoyathong area staged a sit-in-protest at Khoyathong Andolan Keithel.

Speaking at the protest, Poirei Leimarol Meira Paibi Apunba Manipur president L Memchoubi said that it is a known fact to the public that the State Government is trying to divert the issue.

Saying that the present movement would continue till the demand for ILPS is fulfilled, Memchoubi said that protection of indigenous people is everybody's responsibility including the elected political leaders.

As such, the Government must understand this fact and take up steps according to the wishes of the people.

On the other hand, members of Manipur Central Youth Club and Keishampat Keisham Leikai staged a sit-in-protest at Keishampat Lairembi community hall.

Similar protest was also staged Wangkhei Keithel Puja Lampak.

Womenfolk of Yaiskul Chingakham Leirak along with Moirangkhom Kabui Khul Apunba Nupi Lup also staged a sit-in-protest at Yaiskul.

Members of the All Manipur Nupi Manbi Association staged a demonstration at Singjamei Super Market.

This is the second such protest staged by the association.

Earlier, they had staged a sit-in at Lamlong Keithel.

The All Manipur United Disables' Organisation (AMUDO) along with womenfolk of Leishemlon Marup Chingamakha Oinam Leirak also staged a sit-in-protest demanding the State Government to save the indigenous people through Inner Line Permit System and to punish the police personnel involved in the killing of Sapam Robinhood.

Members of the Yaipha Lamjing Nupi Lup, Khurai Thoidingjam Leikai also staged a sit-in-protest at the locality demanding ILP implementation in the State.

Meira paibis of Sega Road Khwairakpam Leikai staged a peace rally along the Tiddim road raising slogans to save the indigenous people of the State and to implement Inner Line Permit System in Manipur.

At Nambol bus parking, Waroi Ningthem Drinking Water Suppliers' Association, Nambol held a sit-in-protest in support of the pro-ILP movement.

Yesterday, Awang Sekmai Meira Paibi and two local clubs, Progressive Youth Development Organisation and Paroukhomba Development Association staged a torch rally from Koujengleima of Sekmai to Maharabi demanding implementation of ILPS in Manipur.

Different forms of agitation were staged at Bishnupur today demanding ILPS or a similar law for the protection of indigenous people of the State.

A sit in was staged under the joint initiative of Lamangdong Apunba Nupi Lup and Keithel Chaokhat Lup.

The protesters later shouted various slogans including demands for inclusion of the five points raised by the JCILPS in the fresh Bill, punishment against personnel involved in Robinhood's killing, etc.

A torch rally was planned in the evening.

Sit-in, forming human chain and roadblock were staged at different places under the aegis of National Identity Protection Committee (NIPCO) demanding ILPS.

The demonstrations were staged at Loijing Ima Keithel, New Keithelmanbi under the auspices of New Keithelmanbi Ima Meira Paibi.

Womenfolk of Namgailong Kabui village also took part in the protest.

Similar protests were also held at Moidangpok Aheibam and Khamnam Leikai; Takyel Kolom Leikai; Moirang Hanuba Community Hall; Ideal Club, Tera; Baruni Club, Thangapat Mapal; LYDC Sagolband; Wahengbam Leikai Community Hall.

Slogans demanding protection of indigenous people, punishment of personnel involved in the killing of Robinhood, resignation of MLAs etc were raised during the protests.

Ithai Modern Civilisation Club, Ithai Khunou meira paibis staged a sit in yesterday at Ithai market shed, Bishnupur district.

Effigies of CM, local MLA, new Bill drafting committee chairman Debendro were burned.

A sit in protest was also staged at Patsoi Part-II Mayai Leikai Nisha Bandh shed under the aegis of Youth Development Organisation, Patsoi Part-II today demanding ILPS.

At the same time, United Clubs' Organisation of Bishnupur district (UCOBID) and other bodies affiliated to AMUCO like UKANCO, MASVUCO, KASVVCO, BISCO and UVACO pledged support to the JCILPS' movement until the Committee's demand for the protection of indigenous people of the State is achieved.

WACA, Imphal West and other like-minded organisations like UCO, RUCO, SLUCO, local clubs, women's organisations have also pledged to support JCILPS in its demand for the formulation of a Bill that regulates influx of migrants and protection of indigenous people.

A meeting was also held at Uyungpok Nungsung village community hall under Khundrakpam AC in connection with ILPS demand movement, a statement informed.

The meeting was attended by members of Nungsung village meira paibis, youth clubs besides villagers of neighbouring villages including Khongbal Tangkhul, H Khopibung Kuki, Khamenlok Kuki, Thombol Kuki, Aigejang Kuki and New Aigejang.

A two-minute silence was observed to show respect to Sapam Robinhood during the meeting.

The meeting endorsed the demand for implementation of ILPS or a similar law for the protection of indigenous people of the State.

Representatives of JCILPS addressed the meeting.

The participants after the meeting staged roadblock at roads connecting these villages with Imphal.
