UNC set to intensify stir, Govt offices to be picketed from Dec 31

The Naga people's consultative meet held under the banner of the United Naga Council (UNC) at Senapati today resolved to launch 'democratic picketing' of State Government offices in 'Naga districts' from midnight of December 31, 2016 and prevent the district administration from functioning.
The additional mode of agitation will be launched even as the ongoing economic blockade continues.
Educational institutions, medical services, and power sector will be exempted.
"Today's consultation was held to update the people on the ongoing situation and to take decisions to take forward the movement against bifurcation of our land," said UNC in a statement.
The consultation was attended by Naga tribe councils, frontal and regional organisations, intellectuals, Church leaders, Parliamentarians, social leaders and members of the general public.

KS Paul Leo, Samson Remei and L Adani, former presidents of the UNC, who were in the UNC team that visited Delhi from December 18 to 23 briefed the Naga leaders today and highlighted the important observations of the visit.
According to the statement, after thorough discussion of proposals laid before the house for intensification of the people's movement in the light of latest developments, today's consultative meeting decided to appeal to all Churches to offer 'special prayer' on January 8, 2017, Sunday against the declaration of 7 new districts and for the peoples' movement for protection of their land and people.
The meeting also decided that a sum of Rs 20 (twenty) will be contributed by every Naga household towards strengthening the peoples movement for safeguarding the ancestral homeland under the aegis of the UNC.
Submission of the contribution is fixed on January 10, 2017 .
It was decided that consultation will be held at all respective tribe levels to update the people on the latest situation as shared in the day's consultation.
This will have to be completed on or before January 15, 2017 .
According to the UNC, a decision was also taken that a media management team should be set up by the UNC in order to engage adverse propaganda/publicity and also to promote "our political position and project the same in responsive measure" .
