Imphal, October 28:
The cease-work strike of the state government employees, which is currently under way, today took a serious turn with employees of the hospital services, community health centres and other health centres under the government joining in it leaving the OPDs, health camps and other health programmes paraplegic.
Employees including staff nurses of the one and the only major hospital under the directorate of health services, JN Hospital, have also joined the strike leaving the concerned patients in the lurch.
Sources said the patients inside the hospital wards have been suggested to seek treatment in the RIMS Hospital or private health care centres very soon.
The director of health services, who personally visited the JN Hospital this morning after the staff employees stayed off their works, appealed to the latter to return to their duties taking into account the patients lodged in the wards.
However, there was no effect to his appeal.
The state medical department employees had earlier resolved to close down the OPDs from today and emergency services from November 2 if the JAC's demands are not met by then.
It may be mentioned that the JAC-sponsored stir initially began with pen-down strike from October 18 and later intensified from October 22 in the form of cease-work strike.
The employees have placed a charter of demands including restoration of certain allowances the government has withdrawn as a part of its frugality measure.
