Imphal, August 28 2022:
The 57th foundation day of the All Manipur Students' Union (AMSU) was observed today at its office inside DM University campus.
The programme started with hoisting of the AMSU flag and releasing of balloons followed by cultural programmes.
Speaking at the programme, AMSU president Haobijam Chalamba said following the artificial food scarcity created by selfish businessmen who were pulling all the strings, students and the masses carried out a peaceful march on August 27, 1965, popularly known as 'Chaklam Khongchat'.
The peaceful rally was met by show of strength by the Government wherein four individuals were martyred.

Following the violent incident during the peaceful rally, students in thousands gathered the next day (August 28) and the All Mani- pur Students' Union (AMSU) was formed, he added.
Adding that AMSU, during the last 57 years, has played significant roles in various issues of the State, Chalamba maintained that if history of the State for the period starting from 1965 to 2022 is written without mentioning the contributions of AMSU, it will be an incomplete history.
AMSU took part in various issues including border pillar issues, demand for ILPS and 'Go Back Foreigner' campaign in 1980, amongst others.
AMSU has been able to do so with active support from the public and will continue to do so in future, he added.
Chalamba also reiterated the stand of AMSU to follow the path of former leaders for a new and better Manipur and added that AMSU will give their lives for the State if the need ever arises before anyone.
The programme was also attended by RK Itocha (former president AMSU), Khangembam Anandi (advisor AMKIL), Ngangom Deba (secretary general UCM) and Ngasepam Sanahal (president All Assam Manipur Students' Union) as presidium members.
