No let up in ILPS movement, student rifle-butted, 6 hurt

People in the four valley districts continued to stage demonstrations de-manding implementation of ILPS in the State today as well.
At least six students including those from lower standards were injured as police fired tear gas shells and mock bombs and resorted to baton charging on agitating students in Bishnupur bazar.
A Class XI (Science) girl student of CI College was seriously injured as a police commando personnel hit her with his rifle butt.
All the injured students were rushed to RIMS Hospital.
The students were trying to take out a rally, however police blockaded and dispersed them by firing several rounds of tear gas shells, mock bombs apart from resorting to baton charging.
Taking serious note of police excesses, Joint Inner Line Permit System Students' Wing convenor demanded action against the police personnel involved in the brutal crack down.

He added that Chief Minister's assurance to discuss the issue on the last day of Assembly session was very unfortunate as the MLAs had not uttered even a single word during the Budget session till date.
On the other hand, a large number of students of Mani-pur University today took to streets and blockaded traffic along NH-2 for some time at MU gate.
The situation became tense with the arrival of a police team and participation of local people in the students' agitation.
Even as the agitators set Chief Minister's effigy on fire, police snatched a camera from a man who took photographs of the scene.
Then a tense confrontation broke between police and agitators on the issue which was later calmed down after police gave back the camera to its owner.
Later, the agitators staged a sit-in-protest there.
Manipur University Students Union Revival Comm- ittee Convenor Th Suresh strongly condemned police action meted out to student agitators on July 25 .
Maintaining that the current agitation being staged at different parts of the State is meant to protect the whole indigenous population, he de- manded early enforcement of ILPS in the State.
Womenfolk staged sit-in-protests at different localities demanding implementation of ILPS in the State today.
Womenfolk of Ramji Ka-bui village participated in a sit-in-protest staged at Sagol-band Tera Yengkhom Leirak.
Patsoi Zilla Parishad Mem-ber Th Sumanta and Lamjao- tongba Gram Panchayat Pra-dhan RK Gunasana also took part in the protest.
Similar protests were held at Tera Tongbram, Tera Lou-kham Leirak and Tera Bazar.
UMO and Keishamthong Apunba Meira Paibi Lup also staged dharna on the issue at Keishamthong Bazar.
The Keishamthong Apun-ba Meira Paibi Lup general secretary Shanti Leima strong-ly condemned brutal thrashing of student agitators by police.
Nganappi Thong Nupi Lup and Moirang Purel Nupi Lup also jointly staged sit-in-protest at Nganappi Thong today.
Women agitators demanded immediate release of arrested student and women leaders.
Similar protests were also staged at Haobam Marak, Kakwa Bazar, Singjamei and Chinga Makhong etc.
Meanwhile, Bamon Leikai Youth Club, Yairipok has said that it would take active part in all the agitations launched by student and civil society organisations on the issue.
Students and people of Kakching took out a rally on the issue today.
The rally which started from Kakching Bazar Naohallai Ground reached SDO office after passing through localities like Paji Leikai, Mayai Leikai, Makha Leikai, Laithangol Leikai and Turel Wangma.
Later, police blocked the rallyists at SDO gate and allowed to submit a memorandum to the Chief Minister through Kakching SDO.
A brief confrontation between police and rallyists erupted as the rallyists tried to take their march foward.
However, they were allowed by the police to rally towards Kakching Wairi and Khunyai Leikai before it culminated at Kakching Naohallai Ground.
All shops in Kakching Bazar were shut during the rally.
Rallies and sit-in-protests were also held at Wabagai by different organisations.
