Ranjit urges displaced folks of Sugnu to return home

Imphal, April 28 2025: Sugnu AC MLA K Ranjit has made a fervently appealed to displaced people of Sugnu staying in relief camps elsewhere to return to their homes.

People of Sugnu and Serou must return to their birthplaces, and safeguard their properties and land passed down to them over the generations.

It is "our duty" to protect and safeguard our land, said Ranjit.

He made the appeal at the launch of "Eyumna Koure", a 9-side State level football tournament for men at Sugnu Public Ground.

The tournament has been named "Eyumna Koure" - to urge and appeal to the hearts of the displaced people of the Constituency to return to their birthplace, said Ranjit.

The opening ceremony of the tournament was attended by former Chief Minister Okram Ibobi, former Speaker Th Lokeshwar and other Congress leaders and representatives of local clubs and organisations.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, MLA Ranjit underscored that every effort has been made to allow safe and secure return of the displaced people of Sugnu to their homes.

He said houses are being reconstructed for displaced families with the assistance of the relevant department and authorities of the State.

Construction of many houses has been constructed, and he is in constant contact with the authorities to start the construction of houses of those who have been left out, said Ranjit.

He said schools which were earlier occupied by security forces have been freed and have started opening to students.

Students who had gone to other schools elsewhere during the height of the conflict may return to their original schools, he said.

Ranjit said he is taking up appropriate actions in consultation with relevant authorities to effect transfer of students back to their original schools.

Serou and parts of Sugnu were peaceful weeks into the conflict with the formation of a peace committee, comprising members of different communities including the Kuki.

Despite him seeking adequate security forces for the vulnerable Constituency, the Chief Minister then didn't send the required forces.

Subsequently, armed Kukis attacked Serou and parts of Sugnu, he said.

"Serou was deserted, but gradually, people have started to come back to their homes.

Displaced families who have not returned to their original places, please return home.

Your birthplace is calling you to protect it and safeguard it," Ranjit said.

Former CM Okram Ibobi too urged the people of Sugnu to return to their homes, and appreciated MLA Ranjit for his sincere service towards the people of the Constituency.

He lauded the MLA for assisting his people with dedication and for donating land in the name of displaced families.
