Imphal/Jiribam, November 27 2024: Demanding safe release/rescue of Laishram Kamalbabu whose whereabouts remain unknown after his mysterious disappearance on November 25, womenfolk of Kanto and surrounding villages staged a sit in protest at Kanto by blocking the road leading to Leimakhong Army base camp today.

Meanwhile in Cachar, a public meeting was held at Gossaipur, the birthplace of Kamalbabu, and the gathering appealed to the Centre, the State Government and the Indian Army to search for the missing person on a war footing and rescue him.

The meeting also resolved to submit a memorandum to the Assam Chief Minister, the local MLA and Deputy Commissioner and Superintendent of Police of Cachar to urge the Manipur Government to rescue Kamalbabu.

Speaking to the media, vice president of Gossaipur Meira Paibi Lup Laishram Santibala said that Kamalbabu went to Imphal for work and he is an innocent person.

She appealed to the Manipur Government to figure out why Kamalbabu was allegedly abducted and ensure his safety.

The protest demonstration at Kanto, on the other hand, was organised by the JAC formed in connection with the disappearance of Kamalbabu allegedly from the Leimakhong Army base.

The protesters demanded that Kamalbabu be handed to his family safe and sound within two two days.

Kamalbabu (56), a resident of Cachar Gosaipur was staying at his brother's place at Loitang Khunou and he was assigned to supervise contract work at the military camp.

As per a report published by NDTV, the gate logs showed Kamalbabu had entered the military camp but did not exit.

People presumed that he might have been abducted by Kuki militants as the place he was working is close to Kuki inhabited places.

Speaking to the media on the sideline of the protest demonstration, Lourembam Anita, a member of the JAC, claimed that the Army officers who they met yesterday are clueless how Kamalbabu disappeared.

She said that they will intensify their protest if the missing person is not rescued within two days (by November 29) .
