Speaking to media persons at the airport before leaving for Delhi, COCOMI coordinator Sunil Karam said that following the intense and continuous agitation in the State spearheaded by COCOMI against any impact to the integrity of Manipur as a result of the Naga peace talks, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, through the Chief Minister, invited COCOMI for a meeting at 10 pm today.
The State Government has made many assurances that the peace talks will not affect the State but COCOMI and the people have not accepted those assurances till date.
So, during the meeting, COCOMI will demand the Union Home Minister to provide a written assurance that the State will not be affected by the Naga peace talks and that there will be no division based on ethnic lines.
COCOMI will not settle for anything less than a written assurance from Amit Shah.
The committee will never accept verbal promises, he announced.
Clarifying that COCOMI has not revoked the boycott on Manipur Sangai Festival, Sunil assured that COCOMI will not do anything to betray the trust of the people.
Appealing the people to remain ever alert, he once again assured that COCOMI will always stand to guard the interests of the people and the land.
The team will highlight the tense situation prevailing in Manipur due to the uncertainty and apprehension concerning the Naga peace talks.
COCOMI will make it clear that the integrity of Manipur can never be compromised on any ground, he said, adding that the decision to continue the boycott on Sangai Festival or to revoke it will depend on the outcome of the meeting with Amit Shah.
