Also, in a historic move, the bravehearts and courageous people who fought for the Nation are shown deep respect, their statues are cleaned and they are given floral tributes, the Chief Minister explained adding that similarly, the statue of Maharaj Bheigyachandra was cleaned and the floral tribute ceremony was organised.
On winning the Krishkarman Award 2017-18 (which carries a cash prize of Rs 5 crore), the Chief Minister said that he would like to credit the success to the farmers, officials of Agriculture Department and the Agri Minister as well as the people.
On the other hand, the Chief Minister announced that Rs 6 crore has been sanctioned to sow Rabi crops due to the drought like condition in the State this year and added that as the rains are slowly but surely coming now, atleast some of the crops in the State can flourish and survive.
However, as drought has already been declared, a Central team will still visit the State to monitor the situation and the funds or compensation received from the Centre will be utilised to ease the suffering of the farmers.
The Chief Minister explained that the reason for Meitei Cheng or indigenous rice reaching a staggering price of Rs 50 per kg, is due to low production.
The indigenous rice is not widely cultivated nowadays and most of the farmers have shifted to high yielding rice varieties.
Superfine and other rice varieties do not seem to be reaching such high prices in the market, he said, adding that the State Government will try to ensure that the price of the local rice is decreased while production is increased from this year onwards.
Speaking about the 7th Pay for the college teachers, the Chief Minister explained that due to the presence of rules and regulations of the Grants Commission, the Government is trying to come to an amicable solution to the problem.
Top officials and workers of BJP Manipur Pradesh were also present at the event.
