Ranjit distributes relief materials to flood affected people of Sugnu

Works Minister K Ranjit today distributed relief materials to the flood affected people of Sugnu and surrounding areas.
Notably, around 200 families have been staying in relief camps and road side makeshift huts after their houses have been flooded.
The relief materials distributed by Works Minister Ranjit included rice, dal, common salt, potato, cooking oil, potable water, candle and tarpaulin.
To address the chronic problem of flood in Sugnu and certain parts of Chandel district caused by obstruction of water current of Manipur river and other rivers by Chakpi river, Chakpi multipurpose project would be taken up under the central Water Commission at the estimated cost of Rs 800 crores , Ranjit stated.
Due process has also been completed to build retaining walls along the bank of Manipur river from Ithai Warukok to Sugnu bridge, Ranjit stated while assuring further assistance to the flood affected people.

The Minister has also instructed relevant officials to take up all precautionary measures to control outbreak of water-borne diseases in the aftermath of flood.
