At least 28 houses set aflame at two Kuki villages in Kamjong

Imphal, April 23 2025:
Unknown miscreants burned down at least 28 houses at Gampal and Haiyang under Sahamphung subdivision, Kamjong district this morning.
Haiyang, a hamlet of Gampal village, is not a Government recognised village, said sources.
Both the villages fall under Chassad police station.
The villages are located on the extreme eastern Indo-Myanmar border area of Kamjong district--between Border Pillar No 117 and Border Pillar No 118 .
The arson took place at around 9 am .
The armed miscreants burnt down 16 houses at Gampal village and 12 houses at Haiyang village.

Gampal Primary School was also partially burnt in the arson.
While the miscreants have not been identified and their motives are still unknown, sources said they left the villages in a hurry after burning down the houses.
There is no report of anyone injured in the incident.
On getting information about the incident, Chassad police and BSF personnel rushed to the villages.
Executive Magistrate Sahamphung, Hungyo Yurreikan also rushed to the incident site bringing relief material for the villagers.
In the meantime, District Magistrate, Kamjong, Rangnamei Rang Peter has imposed curfew under Section 163 of BNSS, prohibiting movement of any person outside their respective residence until further orders.
Additional forces of the BSF and Assam Rifles have been sent to the villages.
The Deputy Commissioner of Kamjong is expected to visit the villages tomorrow to take stock of the situation and take necessary measures.
Several Kuki organisations including Kuki Inpi Manipur (KIM) and Kuki Eastern Kuki Chief Association (EKCA) have strongly condemned the arson at the villages.
